Cleveland Clinic Bariatric and Metabolic Institute has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Surgical Review Corporation. The designation, awarded to programs with a proven record of favorable outcomes for weight-loss surgery, also recognizes Cleveland Clinic bariatric surgeons Philip Schauer, MD, Bipan Chand, MD, Stacy Brethauer, MD, Tomasz Rogula, MD, and Matthew Kroh, MD.
The Bariatric and Metabolic Institute at Cleveland Clinic has also been accredited as a Level 1 facility by the Bariatric Surgery Center Network (BSCN) Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
For the fifteenth consecutive year, Cleveland Clinic has once again been ranked No. 1 in the nation for heart care, according to the 2009 U.S. News & World Report "America's Best Hospitals" survey.
Since 1994, no hospital in the country has ranked higher than Cleveland Clinic in cardiac care.
The survey also recognized Cleveland Clinic as one of the nation's best hospitals overall, ranking Cleveland Clinic as No. 4 in the country.
Twelve Cleveland Clinic programs were listed among the Top 10 in the United States, including seven in the Top 5 and three – digestive disorders, urology, and rheumatology – among the Top 2.

In a separate ranking by U.S. News, Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital ranked higher in more specialties than any other children's hospital in Northeast Ohio. Overall, Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital earned national rankings in eight out of 10 pediatric specialties.
